The Zellies Complete Mouth Care System has been used by hundreds of people who have been told they had “incurable” periodontal disease. After only a few months on the System, surprised dentists have told them they no longer need periodontal surgery.

Porphyromonas gingivalis is a bacteria involved in gum infections and periodontal disease. New research suggests P. gingivalis has a dangerous ability to upset and disable our body’s immune system. This allows the bacteria to be protected from our normal defense systems and explains why P. gingivalis can set up chronic infections that put you at risk for serious health problems.

Studies suggest that P. gingivalis causes immune damage very quickly. This is why gum health is important and why the Zellies Complete Mouth Care System should be started in advance of problems.

If your parents had gum disease, or conditions like arthritis, heart problems, or dementia, you may be at greater risk for periodontal pathogens transmitted through kissing and sharing food with your family. Young women should understand the association between poor gum health and pre-term birth.

In addition to using Zellies Xylitol and rinse protocol, studies have shown that probiotics may also be beneficial for gum health, and a diet rich in antioxidants and Omega-3s may help stop bleeding and stimulate healing.

Ask Dr. Ellie: Granular Xylitol

Ask Dr. Ellie: Granular Xylitol
  • Dr. Ellie,
Could you comment on the results of the Xylitol for Adult Caries trial that was just reported in the Jan 2013 JADA journal?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    • Hi Richard – I am in process of writing a blog post about this recent study – but here is the quick answer: The Xylitol for Adult Caries Trial (X-ACT) is not surprising if you understand the biology and chemistry of cavities and tooth decay.

A well-respected lecturer in Minimal Intervention Dentistry, Dr. Graeme Milicich, sent me his comment from New Zealand; “Water can put out a fire, but a cup of water is not going to deal with a house fire. The people selected in this study were high-risk patients, so throwing a cup of water at the problem, without any other intervention, is obviously not going to deal with it”. Another analogy would be giving a couple of “diet pills” to obese patients without any dietary advice – then being shocked that they don’t work.

The clinic patients in this study had serious decay problems and many had half their natural teeth missing. They experienced about 4 new cavities a year, yet it does not appear anyone addressed their lifestyle or habits. Xylitol’s main benefit is its alkalizing ability. You can do a pH test in your own mouth and show 100 percent xylitol( like Zellies) quickly alkalizes the mouth to protect teeth from acidity and sugars. This is why you eat Zellies after eating, drinking or snacking to protect teeth. If you eat xylitol and then sip diet soda or a 20 oz energy drink – it won’t work! Another benefit of xylitol is that it can loosen plaque for improved oral care but, of course, you need well-formulated mouth rinses, toothpaste and brushing habits.

To prevent cavities, you must limit acidic damage, consider nutrition, and control drinking and snacking habits. This is why we explain Zellies are a delicious part of a better way to look after your teeth. It is YOU that must make the effort, use the xylitol, and understand that there is no magic pill!

The researchers in this study admitted decades of powerfully positive results for xylitol use to prevent kids cavities. Hundreds of good and Evidence Based studies show it works in any form to protect children and adolescents. Isn’t it fascinating that the ADA and the media appear to have completely ignored these great stories, but picked a negative one and raced it to the NY Times in one day! I wish the media had been excited to tell mothers how xylitol prevents transmission of cavities to children in 1970 (how many teeth would we have saved?) or maybe how wiping baby teeth during eruption can give long term protection from cavities. I find the focus on an “incomplete” study truly sad.

We at Zellies will continue on our mission to educate our followers about the powerful benefits of xylitol when combined with good oral health education to stop, prevent and even reverse early cavities and many gum problems. Please stay tuned for my upcoming blog article which will delve a little deeper into this study and explain some of the surprising things they left out!

  • Hello Dr. Ellie, Thank you for your excellent program! I have been following the guidelines for one month (rinses, and 8-10 g xylitol) and have found amazing improvement in my gums, brighter teeth, and better breath. The Xlear product is excellent and after 3x/day for the month has eliminated a long standing post nasal drip. This has been more effective than prescription sinus medicine! So grateful for your program. Do you have suggestions on specific supplements (Omega-3, Omega-6, Co-enzyme Q10, or others) to improve immune response? I have dry mouth and dry eye from Grave’s disease treated with two radio-iodine cocktails and this increases risk for gingivitis. Thank you.

    • Hi Lin,

What great news and it’s wonderful that you put the Zellies Complete Mouth Care System together with the Xlear Nasal Drops to fix your nasal and mouth problems at the same time!

I don’t have any specific suggestions about supplements – but I do like the Garden of Life brand Probiotics and suggest the Raw version if you can find them in the refrigerated section of your Health Store. Keeping the mouth and digestive tract balanced and healthy is really important. Please keep in touch and we always like to hear progress reports over time!
