  • How Much Does Dr. Ellie’s Complete Mouth Care System Cost? The Breakdown
October 23, 2026

How much does it actually cost to use the Complete Mouth Care System everyday?

What is the Complete Mouth Care System?

My Complete Mouth Care System is a daily oral care routine comprised of three mouth rinses, a toothbrush and toothpaste done twice a day, morning and night. My oral care recommendations also include using xylitol throughout the day and periods of mouth resting between eating and drinking.

The System goes as follows:

Let's Do The Math: What Does It Actually Cost?

We looked at six products. To calculate the cost, we measured how much of each product a small sample of adults used during their normal routines, averaged their measurements, and calculated how long each product would last. See the chart below.

  1. CloSYS Ultra Sensitive Mouthwash
  2. Dr. Plotka's MouthWatchers Toothbrush
  3. Crest+ Cavity Protection Regular Toothpaste
  4. Listerine Cool Mint Intense Mouthwash
  5. ACT Anticavity Fluoride Rinse
  6. Zellie's Xylitol Mints
Product Size Amazon Price Daily Usage Product Lasts Monthly Cost
CloSYS 32 fl oz $13.97 2.0 fl oz 16 days $26.19
Mouth Watchers Toothbrush 1 brush $5.49 2 uses 60 days $2.75
Crest Toothpaste 4.2 oz $5.85 0.1 oz 42 days $4.18
Listerine 33.8 fl oz $6.98 2.0 fl oz 16.9 days $12.39
ACT 18 fl oz $6.00 0.6 fl oz 30 days $6.00
Zellie's Mints 250 mints $14.99 12 mints 20.8 days $21.59
TOTAL $53.28 $73.10

*Prices are based on U.S. Amazon prices collected for this comparison and may change. Monthly costs are prorated estimates based on a 30-day month. Rinse measurements were taken using a kitchen scale and treated as approximate fluid volumes for this calculation. Actual consumption and cost will vary.

We assumed 12 Zellie's mints per day (6 grams) and replacement of the toothbrush every two (2) months. It is generally recommended to have 5-10 grams of xylitol in small amounts throughout the day.

The Bottom Line: ~$2.44 per day

  • Daily cost: $2.44
  • Monthly cost: $73.10
  • Annual cost: approximately $877.20

The initial cost to purchase one of each product is somewhere around $53, but that isn't the same as the ongoing monthly cost. Some products last much longer than others. A toothbrush might last two months, while a bottle of mouthwash could last just a couple of weeks, depending on how much you use.

By calculating the cost based on actual consumption rather than the purchase price alone, we get a more realistic picture of the ongoing expense.

Can You Spend Less?

Absolutely. These calculations use individual product prices without factoring in potential savings. You may be able to reduce your costs by purchasing larger bottles, buying multipacks, taking advantage of Amazon Subscribe & Save, using store coupons, or stocking up during sales.

The amount of product you use also makes a difference. Our measurements represent a very small sample of adults, not a recommended serving size or a universal average. For xylitol, we used Zellie's 250-count mint bottle as our example. Other brands or types of xylitol products may have different costs.

Below we've calculated the estimate cost for different sized households, and how much a 5% discount can save you.

Household Size Annual Cost With 5% Savings Annual Savings
1 Person $877.20 $833.34 $43.86
2 People $1,754.40 $1,666.68 $87.72
3 People $2,631.60 $2,500.02 $131.58
4 People $3,508.80 $3,333.36 $175.44
← Swipe to view full table →

Estimates are based on $73.10 per person per 30-day month, assuming adult-equivalent usage. The 5% savings are illustrative and assume all products qualify for a subscription discount. Actual savings and household usage may vary.

The takeaway: The Complete Mouth Care System doesn't have one fixed price. Your actual cost will depend on your product choices, purchasing habits, and daily usage.

So... Why Would I Spend This Much?

Understanding the cost is one thing. Understanding why these particular products, in this particular order, is just as important. The Complete Mouth Care System is built around a central idea: A healthy mouth is about supporting a healthy oral environment (or ecology).

Your Mouth Is an Ecosystem

Your mouth is home to a complex community of bacteria and other microorganisms, collectively known as the oral microbiome. Not all bacteria are harmful. Many are normal residents of a healthy mouth. Problems can develop when conditions favor bacteria associated with tooth decay and gum disease. These bacteria can organize into a sticky community called infected biofilm, also commonly known as dental plaque.

Infected biofilm isn't simply food debris. It's a structured microbial community that interacts with saliva, tooth surfaces, and the surrounding environment. That's why my approach looks beyond brushing, flossing, or dental cleanings alone.

Each Product Has a Different Purpose

The Complete Mouth Care System combines several complementary approaches to oral care. Together, these steps address different aspects of oral health.

  • CloSYS is used before brushing as a gentle pH balanced rinse to neutralize mouth acidy. Its stabilized chlorine dioxide oxidizes as it activates, helping dislodge harmful bacteria and loosen debris.
  • Brushing with Crest Cavity Protection Toothpaste helps physically remove plaque and food residue while delivering fluoride to support enamel.
  • Listerine contains essential oils that target immature plaque bacteria, killing them before they turn into harmful mature bacterium that cause cavities and gingivitis.
  • ACT Anticavity Fluoride Rinse provides an additional fluoride exposure to support enamel remineralization. It is used last in the sequence so essentially seal the teeth and keep them ready for the day ahead or a nights sleep.
  • Xylitol is used throughout the day to support a pH neutral oral environment, feed the good bacteria, and reduce the harmful bacteria. Frequent small exposures throughout the day is recommended.

Why Does the Order Matter?

I recommend using these products in a specific sequence rather than treating them as interchangeable. For example, Listerine's formula is acidic and should not be left as the last thing on your teeth. It is vital to follow Listerine with ACT.

What About Flossing?

Flossing can help remove trapped food from between teeth as needed, but I always emphasizes that flossing will not change the biology of your mouth. Your bacterial balance, the health of your saliva, mouth acidity, and your overall health are extremely important pieces of the puzzle.

What About Dental Cleanings?

Dental cleanings have a place. Again, I must emphasizes that a dental cleaning will not change the biology of your mouth. Sometimes you need mechanical removal of calculus to start fresh. My Complete Mouth Care System will help support the bacterial balance in your mouth. My goal is to help you avoid unnecessary dental treatments, and, in my opinion, a dental cleaning every six months is unnecessary.

The goal is to support the conditions in your mouth that help teeth and gums stay healthy over your entire lifetime.

Ready to Get Started?

The Complete Mouth Care System is designed to be a consistent, repeatable routine using products that are widely available (I know it can be difficult still for our internationally community — we apologize!). And now you have a clearer picture of what that routine may cost.

Based on our small experiment, the estimated ongoing expense is approximately $2.44 per day, or $73.10 per month, or $877.20 per year, for one adult.

Your own cost may be higher or lower depending on how much you use and where you shop. If you're new to this approach, start by learning the steps, understanding the purpose of each product, and choosing the options that work for you.

A Note About Our Calculations

This cost comparison was developed using measurements from a handful of adults and U.S. Amazon prices. The sample is small and is intended to illustrate potential costs, not establish average product consumption across a population.

Rinse quantities were measured using a kitchen scale and approximated as fluid ounces for the calculations. All rinse and toothpaste costs assume twice-daily use, while xylitol costs assume 12 mints per day. Prices, product availability, usage, and individual results may vary. Costs exclude applicable taxes and shipping.
